eSIM Setup and Activation
You have your QR code — now install it on your phone. Follow the steps below and you will be online in 3-4 minutes.
Read this before you start
- You need Wi-Fi or a working internet connection during installation. Install the eSIM BEFORE you travel, at home — not after you land.
- An eSIM can only be installed once. If you delete it, the same QR code will not work again.
- Your phone must support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked. iPhone XS and newer, Samsung S20 and newer, Google Pixel 3 and newer are supported.
- After installation you must TURN OFF mobile data on your existing line, otherwise your phone keeps using your old carrier.
iPhone (iOS) installation
- 1Connect to Wi-Fi.
- 2Open Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data).
- 3Tap "Add eSIM" or "Add Cellular Plan".
- 4Choose "Use QR Code" and scan the QR code we sent you. If the QR code is on the same phone, tap "Enter Details Manually" and paste the activation code.
- 5When asked for a label, give it a name you will recognise, such as "Travel".
- 6For "Default Line", select your own number (for calls and messages).
- 7For "Cellular Data", select the Trip4Voyager eSIM. This is what routes your internet through the eSIM.
- 8Go to Settings > Cellular > Trip4Voyager eSIM: make sure "Turn On This Line" is enabled and "Data Roaming" is ON. Without data roaming the eSIM will not work.
Android installation (Samsung, Xiaomi, Pixel, Huawei)
- 1Connect to Wi-Fi.
- 2Open Settings > Connections (or Network & Internet) > SIM Manager / SIM cards.
- 3Tap "Add eSIM" or "Add mobile plan".
- 4Choose "Scan QR code" and scan the code we sent you. If scanning fails, use "Enter code manually" and paste the activation code.
- 5Once added, enable the eSIM using the toggle in the SIM Manager screen.
- 6Select the Trip4Voyager eSIM for "Mobile data".
- 7Go to Settings > Connections > Mobile networks and make sure "Data roaming" is ON. Without it you will have no internet.
The most common mistake: leaving your old line's data on
If the eSIM is installed but you still have no internet, the usual reason is that your phone is still trying to use your original line. Leaving your home line's data on abroad means the eSIM will not be used and your own carrier may charge you high roaming fees.
- 1iPhone: Settings > Cellular > tap your own line > turn OFF "Turn On This Line" (or at least turn off Data Roaming for it).
- 2Android: Settings > SIM Manager > select your own line > turn OFF mobile data.
- 3Confirm that the Trip4Voyager eSIM is selected as the mobile data line.
- 4Restart your phone. Most connection problems disappear at this step.
Troubleshooting
eSIM installed but no internet
First check that Data Roaming is ON — eSIMs work over roaming and will not connect without it. Then confirm the eSIM is selected as your mobile data line and restart your phone.
QR code will not scan / "invalid code"
Try scanning the code from another screen (a computer monitor or a printed copy). If that fails, use "Enter details manually" on your phone and type the activation code (SM-DP+ address and code) we sent you.
"This code is no longer valid" error
Each QR code can only be installed once. If you installed and then deleted the eSIM, the same code will not work. Please contact us in that case.
No network found
Set network selection to Automatic. If automatic selection fails, manually pick one of the major local operators from the list. Turning airplane mode on for 10 seconds and off again usually helps too.
How much data do I have left?
You can track your remaining data from your order page. When your package runs out you can simply buy a new one for the same country.
How early should I install the eSIM?
Install it at home while you have Wi-Fi. The validity period starts when the eSIM first connects to a network, so installing early does not start the clock. Still, installing one or two days before departure is safest.
